Breakfast Casserole.
A breakfast casserole is the simplest way to prepare a holiday meal or brunch. Prepare it the night before and bake it in the morning for the simplest breakfast to serve a lot!
The egg foundation is perhaps the most significant component of this dish. You want a creamy mixture that won't dry out in the oven, as well as a tasty vegetable medley to add flavor. To make it more creamy, combine milk and heavy cream.
The beauty of this dish is its versatility; you can really make it your own!
You may use bacon, bacon/ham combo (like we did here), or sausages. Breakfast sausage, turkey, chicken, beef, mild Italian, or pork all work nicely in this recipe. Add in your favorite!
How to Make Shredded Potato Hash Browns.
AUSSIES AND EVERYONE IN THE WORLD:Those of us who live in areas where frozen shredded hash browns are not available must prepare our own! See the graphic below for a visual.
- Grate the potatoes first, using the biggest side of the grater.
- Soak the shredded potatoes in water for 5 minutes, then rinse in a fine mesh strainer (colander) with cold running water until clear.
- Squeeze out all of the water with a tea towel and let it air dry on a baking pan or sheet.
- Store in zipper freezer bags until you're ready to make your breakfast casserole!
How to Make Breakfast Casserole.
If you don't have frozen potato hash browns, prepare them first, as described above. Next, proceed with your breakfast casserole.
1. Choose your preferred meat fillings: sausages, bacon, ham, or a mixture! If you're adding sausages or bacon, I recommend cooking them beforehand before adding them to the egg mixture.
You may leave out the meat to make it vegetarian.
2. Choose your vegetable fillings: We recommend using green bell peppers (capsicum) and seeded, ripe Roma tomatoes. You may also include maize kernels, red bell peppers (capsicum), sliced mushrooms, and chopped zucchini.
3. Choose your cheese: Use your favorite mix or our recommendation of white cheddar with mozzarella topping.
Layer your potato hash browns at the bottom of your casserole, then add your egg mixture and all of the contents. Sprinkle with cheese and bake your breakfast dish till golden and bubbly!
